How to check-in online?

The earliest point of time is 24 hours before departure. Visit the internet page of the airline and use the booking code indicated on your travel documents.

How much luggage is allowed per person?

1 suitcase of 23 kg maximum plus 1 item hand-luggage for intercontinental flights
1 suitcase of 20 kg maximum plus 1 item hand-luggage for continental flights

What is not allowed in the hand-luggage?

Any kind of sharp and sharp-ending utensils like nail files or scissors. Liquids are limited to 100 ml.

What has to be considered when entering the USA?

You need a valid passport.

• or a biometric passport

Apply for a visa for the USA, find the form on the official ESTA internet page. 

Since September 8th 2010 travellers who enter the USA without a visa but with the Visa Waiver Program have to pay 14 dollars.

Since September 2010 the amount of 14 dollars has to be paid online when applying for visa on the ESTA internet page. Payment is only possible via credit card. So far accepted are Master Card, Visa, American Express and Discover. The amount is only due for new applications. Already paid and approved ESTA applications stay valid and free of further fines. When entering the USA again several times within the ESTA approved period of 2 years another fee won´t be charged.

Entry requirements

As rule of thumb: citizens of countries participating in the Visa-Waiver-Program (VWP - program for cancellation of visa requirement) of the USA may in general enter the USA for 90 days as tourists, business travellers or for transit.
Therefore a machine-readable passport referring to the regulations is required (issued before October 26th 2006), or an e-passport. Furthermore it is necessary to enter the country via a regular airline or shipping line, with a return ticket or connection flight ticket, which may not end in (except for people with a permanent residence) Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean. Additionally an electronic ESTA visa is required.

Attention: airlines are obliged to spurn travellers without a valid ESTA visa at the check-in.

Information: the green I-94 W forms, so far to be filled in during the flight before entering the country are no longer in use since end of summer 2010. Only a few airlines still use these forms.
